About Us

The Kalaydjian Foundation is a non-profit benevolent organisation set up in 1984 with the purpose of helping disadvantaged and needy members of society, with a major focus being on the Armenian community in Cyprus.

According to its founding charter, the Foundation aims to set up and maintain a rest home for the elderly, grant scholarships to gifted students for higher education in Cyprus or abroad, give financial assistance to people in urgent need of medical treatment abroad, provide aid to disadvantaged members of society in Cyprus, provide funding for the restoration of buildings and monuments of traditional character and/or architecture, and to promote and sponsor the development of culture and the arts in Cyprus.

One of the Kalaydjian Foundation's main roles is the running of the Kalaydjian Rest Home for the Elderly, which it opened in March 1988 in Nicosia, Cyprus. The Kalaydjian Rest Home was built by brothers Bedros and Aram Kalaydjian in memory of their parents Roupen and Marie. It originally comprised 12 rooms but following a major renovation and extension in 2005, it now boasts 22 rooms with capacity for a total of 40 people. Its facilities include two large sitting rooms with libraries and satellite television, two dining rooms, and air-conditioning, television and private bathrooms in every room. In 1995, a chapel called Surb Amenaprkich (Holy Saviour) was added next to the home to address its residents' spiritual needs.

As of 2009, the Kalaydjian Foundation also provides support for education at both secondary and advanced levels. As part of its efforts to provide targeted support, the Foundation offers an annual grant to all Cypriot students who are graduates of Narek elementary schools and are enrolled in private secondary schools in Cyprus.

Parallel to this support, the Foundation also grants a scholarship that provides free post-graduate education to gifted Armenian Cypriot students at the American University of Armenia in Yerevan. The primary aim of this programme is to allow talented students, who would otherwise not have the chance to continue their education, the opportunity to receive a Master's degree and enhance significantly their career prospects, while living in the beautiful city of Yerevan and making vital contacts and life-long friendships in their ancestral homeland.

The Kalaydjian Foundation is registered in the Republic of Cyprus as a philanthropic organisation and as such all contributions to it are tax-deductible.
